So we went to the Flood Fest last week and it was all FREE! The entry was free, rides were free, High Five and Dorothy the dinosaur live shows were all FREE! So what happens when there is a free event in Emerald..? The whole town is there! So what happens when the whole town is there and you realise just how many people actually live here..? You loose one of your kids!
Yep, I think I jinxed myself (see previous post) and I lost Noah for around 5 minutes... 5 minutes too long! It was the most horrible and anxious 5 minutes of my life! One second he was standing right in front of me waiting for the dodgem cars, then the next second he was gone. Just like that.
My friend Cassie, who for some reason always seems to be the one to find the precious things I loose (eg. my diamond wedding band, at night, in a big field), found Noah being held by a lovely lady who had found him waiting for another ride not far from where we were. I guess Noah wasn't in the mood for dodgem cars.
Well, I learnt a few things from this experience...
1. I would die if something were to ever happen to one of my children.
2. I don't care if it looks like I can't handle my kid, or if he looks like a 'puppy' on a leash, but next time we go to one of these big events, I'm making Noah wear one of those kiddy bag thingos' with a lead!
3. Never take my eyes of him. Not even for a second.
4. Have Cassie on hand, in case no. 2 and 3 fail.
On a lighter note, we got there pretty early to secure a nice and semi- shady place to sit and wait for the shows.
So we waited...
...and waited...
...and waited some more...
... all for a lady to stand right in front of us just as the show was about to begin and block our view! I even nicknamed her- 'red shirt evil lady.'
But despite 'red shirt evil lady,' the kids and I enjoyed dancing and singing along to Dorothy the Dinosaur and Hi 5, all while Joe watched on in disgust and took one for the team. He is such a good sport.
So after a shaky start to day, and 'red shirt evil lady' making me see red... literally, and the steak burgers sadly having no beetroot, look who Elly got to meet just before we headed home...
Hi 5!!!
It was definitely the highlight of the whole event for this little fan... oh, and Elly's too! ;)
YOU WHAT!!!! I neeeveeer lost my kids :) You need to take an umbrella with you next time and place it strategically up somebodies bottom next time. I don't mean Noah's but the woman in red. xoxox
ReplyDeleteCarmen, I seriously know the feeling of thinking "I have lost my kid and i might never see them again!" way too many times, the first time was in California when Sofia was two and we couldn't find her for like 15 minutes (which felt like 15 hours!) only to find her hiding under a bed. And the other was Rio, who kept hiding in the clothes racks while I called out to him in panic, searching the whole store, that one only lasted 2 minutes, but again it felt like a lifetime! Then he did it again at church, the little bugger ran away from us and we couldn't find him! He has sometimes opened the churches door and gone outside when we've taken too long for him to leave, so Josh and I thought he had tried walking home, what a heart attack! Sofia found him hiding by a couch! Seriously, worst feeling ever!
ReplyDeletei'm surprised you didn't die of a heart attack right then and there! Gotta love free shows! how awesome that Elle got to meet High 5! one day she'll look back on this post and be so grateful you wrote it down! miss you xxx
ReplyDeleteIt is truly the WORST feeling ever. It took at least 5 years off my life, which would probably explain why you were looking a little older last time I saw you Karla... considering how many times you've lost one of yours! ;)
